The BC Blog, A New Beginning...
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...
Just kidding. It's been a bit over 2 months now since Business Catalyst became a part of Adobe and we're slowly starting to settle in and harvest the fruits of the acquisition. On that note, we felt it was a good time to take a new direction with this blog. In the past we helped you with tips on how to market yourselves and sell BC, whereas now we're going to be more product driven to help keep you up-to-date with new and planned product features and enhancements. And what better way to begin than with a look at our roadmap for the next 3 months.
Major Feature Releases over the next 3 months
Following the discontinuation of the GoodBarry brand we're now sharpening our focus on creative Web Professionals like yourselves and that means our short term feature roadmap out to March 2010 contains a number of tools to streamline Web Design on BC.
So what happened to E-Commerce, Web-Apps, Modules, CRM and Blog improvements? I'm re-developing a more in depth plan for all of these aspects of the system, given we now have an expanded engineering team. I will be incorporating the feedback you've given us on our wishlist. However, rather than rushing things we want to make sure that:

To all of our Partners out there who use our product and promote BC to the small business community - thank you! We owe it to you to really ramp up product development in 2010 and beyond. With our new engineering resources and the backing of Adobe I have great confidence that we're really going to kick some goals next year for you and your clients. Stay tuned for more posts as we continue to tease out the details of the longer term roadmap.

Major Feature Releases over the next 3 months
Following the discontinuation of the GoodBarry brand we're now sharpening our focus on creative Web Professionals like yourselves and that means our short term feature roadmap out to March 2010 contains a number of tools to streamline Web Design on BC.
- Dreamweaver Extension - The number 1 feature that excites me is the release of the next generation Business Catalyst Extension for Dreamweaver. A beta version will be available in January. What I can promise here is an extension that's much better integrated with Dreamweaver and a more intuitive interface that gives you improved access to edit the assets on your BC sites. As we test this internally I'll be releasing more details towards Christmas.
- Billing Tools - Shortly following the release of the next-gen Dreamweaver Extension we're aiming to release Partner Consolidated billing. I know our Rebranded Partners have been hanging out for this one for a while now. If you're a full Partner, you're going to be able to set your own hosting prices inside your Partner Portal and this will automatically use the eCommerce system inside your Partner site to bill your clients. If your clients don't pay their bills, the system will automatically suspend their service so you're not out-of-pocket.
- DNS Management Tools - to be added in February/March 2010 - although the DNS requests run in at slightly lower priority on the wishlist we believe it's important for you to be able to manage your own DNS records from within a BC site. This way you can use an external mail service, add multiple hostnames and aliases.
- Data Center Migration - one 'behind-the-scenes' area that our engineers are working on is preparing our new Adobe data centers, with shiny new top-of-the-line equipment and even greater capacity for growth. We're also working on making the migration to these datacenters as seamless as possible. This is a big investment for Adobe and a big project that will be completed around February/March 2010. We will be keeping our partner community in close communication surrounding these developments.
- We first deliver on the 4 items I've listed above in the 3 month plan
- We complete a number of other back office and integration tasks
- We have a detailed and feasible plan that our expanded engineering team can implement in the timeframe communicated.

Thanks a million for this post too...nice to see the future of this great product.
I'm with Amanda on the Dreamweaver extension as I too would love to give the new version of Triangle(?) a spin. I have read that it will be integrating or perhaps become more like Adobe's existing InContext editing extension, any more info on this?
Glad to know you're going to keep us up to date and I'm really looking forward to what I hope will be an exciting and positive time for the future of BC and all it's partners.
Also, no one is responding to any support requests anymore!! This is laughable and probably legal bound due to all the lost business.
Paul, I'd like to introduce myself, with the expanded team I'm the Product Manager for BC. My job is to be your customer advocate for new features to be added to the system and then to translate that into an engineering roadmap that we will implement according to a set schedule.
Frank, as a senior technical team member, I'm very aware of what is happening with the Mail server at the moment. As Brett has already posted on the forums this is unrelated to our previous problems and the systems team responsible for fixing mail are 'all hands on deck' at the moment.
What I can offer at the moment is that we are in the midst of bringing online the full gamut of Adobe Quality Assurance resources. This is unfortunately a process that cannot happen overnight as it does involve the integration of multiple teams and a high degree of careful planning.
Cheers, Eddy
All I ask is that when you put this road map in place you put on the top of the list and in big bold letters to 'OPEN THE SYSTEM UP! BC answers 90% of my clients needs, but to get them over the line I need the other 10% - system customisation. Yes, you say you can customise the design, but i need to have more flexibility within the system. You have lost over the last 12 months, 10 of my clients to other CMS systems.
Believe it or not I think you have a great product but it needs to be more flexible for the web developer.
Cheers
Chris
I currently have three of my clients interested in getting sites developed in BC. They'd heard about GoodBarry and I'd spruiked it's value in the days leading up to the acquisition.
Now, when I've had pre-sales questions, all emails have gone unanswered. It's forced me to start planning for these new clients to go to a Magento based system. Something I'd really prefer not to do, but I feel I have no choice: it'll be *my* reputation on the line if BC fails to deliver.

Thank you for the post and the updates. All good stuff for sure. As a recent BC Partner I can tell you that I am ecstatic about the system and the kinds of solutions that my clients have been looking for. With the Adobe change-over I can appreciate the challenges and can tell you that I - and the other partners I speak with - am sticking by our BC team. Keep up the hard work and keep us updated.
Here's to 2010 kickin' the dust outta '09!

I've been waiting for months hoping to be able to more actively sell my re-branded version. However, my faith in BC decreases each week as I see continued downtime, and a lack of support to back it up. The service is completely different from when I joined last August. I'm pretty close to considering my investment with BC my biggest wasted business expense since I started my company.
No more empty promises....fix your support before you add more features. The reason many people joined in the first place was because they knew BC would be there to back them up when there client's websites had issues.
Maybe not the right place, but just something I've been thinking about.
cheers,
